Happy New Year everybody! It's now
2023 and what better time to take a look back at all the things that happened in 2022, which has been a another crazy year in terms of toys and collectibles.
So much stuff! Many reveals! Wow! Here are a few points that made 2022 so 2022:
PRICES BE CRAZY
2023 saw
prices go way up, thanks to
world events and other
container prices issues. Inflation was pretty high, and now our toys cost more.
*sigh* The good part is that now that the container prices are back to
pre-covid levels, the prices of our figures will probably go back to normal too, right? Right?
Didn't think so...
SCHRÖDINGER'S TOY
Hasbro introduced their
plastic free packaging for all their lines, which accidentally created a new thing: the
Schrödinger's toy. Such as the feline version (
who is either alive or not in a box), the
Schrödinger's toy is a quantum physics experiment that happens when you buy a figure with plastic free packaging. What is inside the box can either be the
correct figure,
another figure, a bottle of
barbecue sauce, a
rock, etc... Other buyers have also called them the "
Hasbro Mystery Boxes".
EVERYTHING GETS RELEASED ALL AT ONCE
After about
2 years of delays and release dates being pushed, the stars (and containers) finally aligned and everything was fixed... meaning that
ALL THE TOYS flooded our hauls during the last 2 months of the year, leaving a lot of collectors broke for the holiday season. Also, toys that were supposed to come out later this year decided to show up early, because why not? "
Most of the toys that I ordered between mid-2019 to late-2022 all came out in november/december. It was a bloodbath." said a collector from Wisconsin. "
Still no signs of the Mezco 1989 Batman, though..."
NOSTALGIA, STILL NUMBER 1
You can tell that Nostalgia still has a huge place on the market when you see that most of the toy collector's
Top 10 lists included either one or many, in no particular order, of the following: a
T-Rex from
Jurassic Park, a
Transformer robot, a
GI Joe figure, a
Gargoyle figure,
Ninja Turtles,
X-Men or
Spiderman animated series figures,
Power rangers,...
Are we in the 90s again?
RISE OF THE KIDULTS
In 2022, toy collectors also learned, after years of being told that we were not even moving the needle a little bit in terms of toy sales, that we are actually an important part, making up a
quarter of them!
Yay, us! They also tried to coin that term with the idiotic term '
Kidult' (
Get it? It's like 'kid' and 'adult'... 'lol'), but let's hope it won't catch.
What were the highlights of
2022 for you? And what do you think
2023 will bring us?
