"
It all happened so fast..." said Josh, an action figure aficionado whose pre-order list suddenly became a lot lighter. "
Having the Mezco Batman 89 and the Hot Toys Justice League Cyborg come out within the same month... It all feels empty now. I don't know what to do." This void, this emptiness that some of us may feel is the feeling that we get after a long-awaited item is finally released, and we do not have anything to look forward to anymore.
It is no secret that the
Mezco One:12 Collective Batman - 1989 Edition took a lot of time to come out, and that we now live in a different world, in which
it has been released. The
Hot Toys Justice League Cyborg figure had a similar situation, as it was first displayed at various comic cons since
2017, and we never really got any announcement, until it officially became available for pre-order in
late July 2021,
4 years later. Many collectors had been vocal about it, commenting on every
Hot Toys announcement "
wHeRe iS CyBoRg?" for 4 entire years
(!), until
Hot Toys finally decided to announce it. That
Cyborg figure has now been released in Hong Kong, where lots of collectors have already received it and posted pictures of it, and should be available state-side in the next few months.
"
There is clearly a before and an after, when an important item comes out." said a
toy psychologist interviewed by
ToyFarce. "
The collector usually spends months waiting for an item, and are usually happy once it is released. But if that anticipation built over entire years, it can become a part of one's personality, which can be difficult to separate from once the item is out. That is why we have several ways of coping with it: Appreciating the item once it arrives, such as making an event out of the unboxing, taking your time,... is a great way of getting closure, and makes it easier to move on. Clicking on 'Add to Cart' for another upcoming item can also be a way to still have that anticipation, even if it just delays things further. I would advocate doing a bit of both."

coping mechanisms are you using? Let us know in the comments!
