It's that time of the year again, when all your favorite
toy reviewers are making
lists! Whether you enjoy that type of content or not, it has come to our attention that the
rules seem to be
pretty loose, so much so that we felt that we should clarify
the unwritten rules to make it clear once and for all for everyone.
Of course, nobody asked for this, just like nobody asked for the top 10 lists in the first place!
Here are a few
unwritten rules of the
Top 10 lists:
- IF YOU DO A TOP 10, DO A TOP *10*!
"So I have 3 honorable mentions..."
A
Top 10 is a list of the 10 highest ranking items of a given category. Adding
3 honorable mentions, as fun as it is to mention that one different figure that no one else (aka everyone else) thought of in their lists, it is then a
Top 13, not a
Top 10.
THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE!
- TOP 10 OF 2023 IS FOR 2023!
"It didn't come out this year, but I only got it this year so I added it to my list!"
If you're doing a
Top 10 list of 2023, this implies that it should be toys that came out
in 2023. That figure from
2 years ago that you got this year is great, really, but should be nowhere near any
Top 10 list of 2023. Imagine if the
Oscars Ceremony/Academy Awards said
"The best movie of the year is that movie from 2017, but I only saw it this year so there's that".
Exceptions: The jury is still out on
re-issues/
re-releases. We personally wouldn't count a
re-issue as a figure produced that year, but some do, and, on a technicality,
it's not wrong...
- THE TOP 10 LIMBO OF DECEMBER!
We've mentioned this multiple times over the years, but
December is also part of the calendar year, and
many figures ship in December as well. Every year, tons of figures get left behind because they came out in December and were not part of the prepared
Top 10 lists, and will be
disqualified the following year since they didn't come out that year.
Please, think of the December figures!
