In a shocking turn of events at the
2025 Toy Draft, the
DC Comics brand has officially been drafted to
Mattel, leaving fans, collectors, and toy executives in a frenzy. The high-stakes trade-off raises even bigger questions: Will
McFarlane Toys respond by drafting
Marvel? And will
TMNT ever settle down with one team?
ToyFarce investigated...
The First Pick: Mattel Snatches Up DC
After months of speculation,
Mattel Commissioner
Richard Mattel (
a completely not made-up Mattel executive) took to the podium and proudly announced: “
With the first pick of the 2025 Toy Draft, Mattel selects... DC Comics!" The crowd erupted in a mix of cheers, boos, and confused muttering about articulation points. Collectors were sent into a full-blown existential crisis: "
Do I have to rebuy everything? Will the build-a-figures be smaller?"
Meanwhile,
McFarlane Toys, the reigning champion of hyper-detailed, ultra-articulated
DC figures, was left on the sidelines. Some sources say
Todd McFarlane was seen furiously sketching a
Spawn figure with a Superman cape in response.
The Rumor Mill: Is Marvel Next for McFarlane?
While
Mattel celebrates their victory, insider sources claim
McFarlane Toys is in deep negotiations to draft
Marvel. An anonymous industry executive (
most likely some guy in a toy forum) said: "
McFarlane has been eyeing Marvel for years. He's already doing the cover statues, but that's just the beginning. He even used to draw Spider-Man! The pieces are coming together!"
The community speculates that with
Diamond Select Toys maybe going under,
McFarlane Toys could start a
Marvel Select type of line, with different scales and distribution, running in parallel to
Hasbro's
Marvel Legends line, while still releasing
DC products under
DC Direct such as statues or figures of different scales, at the same time as
Mattel's more mass release products.
Nobody really knows, and we're all making stuff up as we go! Everything you've heard so far is 100% speculation! (...and there are some hilarious takes out there!)
Meanwhile, TMNT Remains in Free Agency
As brands get drafted to new teams,
TMNT continues to be the wildcard of the toy world. Currently signed with
Playmates,
NECA,
Super7,
Mezco, and several others, including a few companies we haven’t even heard of yet, the Turtles remain the most "
sought-after free agents" in the toy industry.
"
We are everywhere. We are inevitable" stated a mysterious figure in a trench coat (
possibly Raphael in disguise).
In other news,
M.A.S.K. has been drafted to
The Loyal Subjects as a loan from
Hasbro.
Congratulations, M.A.S.K., we're glad to see you back!
With the toy industry landscape shifting rapidly, one thing is certain:
Collectors are in for a wild ride! Who will be the next brand to get drafted? And more importantly, will these new figures actually be easier to find in stores? Will collectors still complain? (
Spoiler: YES!) Stay tuned!
What brand would you like to see drafted to another company?
Let's do some fantasy drafting in the comments!
